Letter 28 (2016-17)

                                                                                                              24 April 2017
Dear Parents,
Last week we had a new friend join Nursery.  Please welcome Som-O to our classroom.
We had quite a busy week last week.  As Earth Day is celebrated on 22 April of every year, we helped to celebrate Earth Day together with the students from the other classrooms and with the world. As we are part of the world that we are living in, we find that it is important for us even as small children to take part in taking care of our world.  We talked about many things that we can do.  First, we talked about saving water.  We learned that we should always turn off the tap while we brush our teeth and after we have finished washing our hands.  Then we talked about reusing and recycling materials.  Thank you for all the wonderful things that you had made during the break.  It was certainly a good introduction to our discussion on recycling.  The children were so proud of the things they had to show.  They were also very honest in telling the class who had made those wonderful items.  We then looked at paper and plastic materials. In the pretend play area, a recycling centre was set up, and we practiced sorting out paper and plastic. We used plastic bags to stuff our Knuffle bunnies which we had sewn by ourselves.  We had fun squeezing the bunnies and hearing its crunchy sound.  Our bunnies are now on the board in front of the classroom.  Last of all we talked about trees and why we need to take care of them.  We made flower pots from old plastic bottles and planted seeds in them.  We went out on a nature walk hunt to look for things in nature. We also talked about saving paper, and learned that lots of trees are cut to make paper. Therefore, in the art centre, we made pictures of trees to decorate the recycling box that we had made for the classroom.  We also learned that we can reduce paper waste by using paper on both sides.
This week we will start on our new theme “The Sky.”  We will be talking about things we see in the day sky and night sky.  This Wednesday will also be Science Day and our topic this year is “Five Senses.”  The children will be visiting different classes to explore and experiment with their five senses.  It should be another fun learning activity for all of them.
                                                                                       Best Regards,

                                                                                       Ms. Marizon

Letter 27 (2016-17)

18 April 2015
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! We hope you had a great Songkran break! We had a really great time celebrating with the children before they left on holiday. They were eager to get involved in all of the splashing. Some of them even jumped right in!  It was also a good experience for the children to get to watch various traditional Thai shows and participate in the water pouring ceremony.
The week before the break, we ended our discussion on “Stories I Like” by reading stories about favourite dolls. Our activities circled around “Corduroy” and “Knuffle Bunny.” As Corduroy had lost one of his buttons, in the math centre, we tried matching buttons of the same colour or shape to the button on his overalls. After we read “A Pocket for Corduroy” and “Knuffle Bunny,” we talked about a laundromat. In the art centre, we made spinning art to resemble the clothes going round and round in the washing machine. During Water Play, we washed clothes, and hung them up to dry.
As it is Earth Day this week, we will be talking about differernt ways to help take care of our earth.
                                                                Best Regards,

                                                                Ms. Marizon
