Last week we ended our topic on “The Sky” by looking at the night sky. We learned that while the day sky was bright and the colour of the sky usually looked blue, the night sky was dark and the sky usually looked black or a deep blue. We experimented light and dark by being outside where we could see the sun and going into a room where it was dark. We continued our discussion on light and dark by looking at light and dark colours.
Later in the week, we talked about things people usually do at night. In the house centre, we pretended to have dinner, brush our teeth, read bedtime stories and go to bed. We certainly had lots of fun when we had our “Pyjama Party.” We talked about beddings and pretended to sleep on the bed. We showed our soft animal to our friends and even had the animals join the party! We talked about camping and instead of making S’mores by roasting marshmallows, we baked them Some of us had big eyes when we saw the chocolate and wanted to eat them right away. We then sat down together to eat and drink night snacks such as S’mores, cookies and milk. We ended our pyjama party by having popcorn while watching some short videos about night time such as “Nighty Night” and “Luna the Moon.” While lying down we were all excited to see the twinkling lights on the ceiling which came from the night lamp. It was certainly a marvelous day for all of us. During the week, we also talked about nocturnal animals such as cats, owls and bats. In the art centre, we made a book about night time, and drew pictures about our dreams.
This week we will be starting on a new topic “Builders and the Building Site.” It will certainly be a topic of interest to many of us.
