Letter 11 (2017-18)

13 November 2017
Dear Parents,

Last week was was certainly a week full of excitement.  We had a lot of fun last week talking about fire fighters, fire trucks, and the fire station.  We looked at pictures of fire, and learned that when there is a fire, we need to call the fire station so that the fire fighters could come and help put out the fire.  We then pretended to be fire fighters doing various activities.  At the writing centre, we used markers to draw fire, and put out the fire by erasing the flames.
We also traced lines to take the fire fighters to the fire engines.  In the art centre we made fire trucks from tissue boxes.  We painted the colour of fire by stamping red and yellow paint and observed how the colour mixed to become orange flames.  We also learned about fire safety.  We learned that fire is hot and that we should not touch anything hot whether it is a stove, oven, iron, or matches.
On Thursday the fire fighters brought their fire trucks to visit us at school.  Some of us were very excited while others were a bit scared at first.  We listened to the fire fighter explain about the different kinds of equipment that they use to put out fire.  The excitement started when we had the chance to sit on the fire truck.  We were delighted to go on this very big truck.  We pretended to be fire fighters driving the fire truck and talked on the walkie talkie. The part that we enjoyed the most was when we could hold the long hose to squirt out water.   Some of us did not want to let go of the hose!  Therefore, during water play, we got to put out the fire by pouring water on pictures of fire around the pool.  We also used the chalk to draw fire on the pavements, and observed how it disappeared when we poured water on it.
This week we will be talking about chefs and bakers.  As part of being a chef we will be talking about food especially healthy food.  Please let your child bring in some fruits and vegetables such as apples, grapes, cucumber, cabbage, corn, peas, etc. to share with their friends.  We will taste and observe different kinds of vegetables and fruits.
                                                                                                Best Regards,

                                                                                                                        Ms. Marizon
