Letter 1 (2016/17)

29 August 2016
Our first week went by very smoothly.  As there are many familiar faces in our class from last year, most of us already knew the place, and took a very short time to settle back into the classroom. Of course, on the first day back some of us looked a bit nervous, but by the second day there were smiles on our faces again.  As I had mentioned to some parents, this is the first time for me as a Nursery teacher that I had very few tears on the first day, and by the time we entered the classroom, everybody was busy playing and doing activities.
Right now we have seven children in the classroom: Panno, Alice, Inchon, Mida, Prom, Pippa and Munich.  Together we have been exploring the classroom and the different learning centres.  On this first week, we have been adjusting to the class rules and routines.  There are certain rules that we need to follow and that you can help reinforce at home such as to tidy up the toys or materials after we have finished, to wipe our noses with a tissue, to cough and sneeze into our elbows, to walk inside the classroom, etc.  We also painted our photo albums, and art portfolios.  Please send in photos of your child doing different activities with family members either at home or in other places.  Photos really help the children to feel secure and also creates lots of conversation throughout the school year.
This week we will start to talk about things I like, and our head, hair and body.  Please send in your child’s favourite item from home. It can be a toy, a book, a photo, etc.  (No guns!)  We will be taking turns to come out to show our favourite item from home to our friends.  This Thursday, 1 September will be Parent Orientation Day.  As our class ends at 12 o’clock, we will have our class meeting at 11.30 while the children are having lunch. You are then welcome to come back for the school’s orientation at 3 o’clock.
                                                                             Best Regards,

                                                                             Ms. Marizon
