Letter 17 (2018-19)

14 January 2019
Dear Parents,
As last week was the first week of school after the Christmas break, it was a time for the children to settle down.  Most of us were happy to be back and went straight to the centres to get the toys they wanted, while others took some time to get back into the routine.  Most of us came in with smiles, and although there were some tears, it stopped pretty quickly.  I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Theda and Max, our two new students to our classroom.
Being away from school for a few weeks made us forget some of the class rules and routines, and so we used the first week back to revisit and reinforce the class rules and routines. We had to learn to wait for our turn, and to use our words to express our needs. We also learned to tidy up the toys after we had finished playing. It took us some time to remember, but by the end of the week we started to use our words and started to put the toys back on the shelves. Thank you for the “During the Break” homework. Every day we took turns showing photos and reading out what we had been doing. We were excited to see that our friends had also visited places we knew. Some of us had visited the zoo which will be a good lead to our discussion on zoo animals, while others visited the beach. We also talked about New Year’s Day. After looking at pictures of fireworks, we used tissue paper rolls to make firework prints. Apart from that, we also talked about colours. Every day we looked at a different colour. We explored items of different colours and played “I Spy Colours”. In the art centre, we used different colours to make pictures through different art techniques. We painted with funnels, cling wrap and chalk.  In the Math centre we played with games and puzzles on colours.  It was our first time to have PE class in order to prepare for Sports day. We ran, jump, and rolled a big ball. It was fun! Our practice for Sports Day this week will be on Wednesday and Friday. Please arrive at school before 8.30 as our PE class will start at 8.30 and we need some time to walk there.
This week we will start our topic on zoo animals. We will be focusing on birds such as parrots, owls, ostriches, flamingos, etc.
                                                                                                Best Regards,
                                                                                                Ms. Marizon

Letter 16 (2018-19)

                                                                                                              7 January 2019
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to school.  I hope you all had a great time during the Christmas holidays.  Coming back to school after being away for a few weeks did bring back some tears in the morning, but we soon gained back our confidence and started to play and do activities as usual.
Our last week of school was certainly a busy one.  The children did a great job on stage for the Christmas performance.  When the children saw lots of people watching them, some sang louder than usual, while others sang softer than usual, while some preferred to observe what was going on around them.  It was already a great success for every one of them.  Of course when they saw you, there were some tears as they all love you and always want to be with you.  I would also like to thank all parents for providing lots of delicious food for our party.  As it was also Milin’s birthday, we had two parties in one morning; a birthday party and a Christmas party.  We played many games, and danced to the sound of Christmas songs.
For the beginning of this term, we are happy to introduce one of the childrens’ favourite themes: Animals. There will be a focus on Zoo Animals, in particular.  We will be looking at zoo animals and their habitats, jobs in the zoo, and activities in the zoo.  As this is the first week back and it is our adjustment week, we will be exploring colours and doing different kinds of art work.  It should be another busy term in Nursery.

                                                                             Best Regards,
                                                                             Ms. Marizon
